There are so many reasons to paint a piece of furniture… a coat of paint can be an easy makeover for a tired and dated piece of furniture. A coat of paint can allow a piece of furniture that’s not really your style to seamlessly fit into your home and life. And a light, bright coat of paint on a piece of furniture can literally light up a dark corner of a room.
A client brought me a simple end table from her living room. It was well built and sturdy and made by a North Carolina furniture manufacturer… a nice, quality piece of furniture, but not her style.
She wanted to paint the end table and chose Maison Blanche Baguette… a creamy neutral with a lot of warm yellow tones. We felt that painting the table in Baguette would brighten up the corner where the table sits in living room. The new color would blend with the colors in her living room, yet it was neutral enough to work with any design changes she made in the future.
A couple of coats of baguette and a coat of clear wax transformed the end table. We lightly distressed the edges of the table to pull some of the wood tones back through. The only area that we did not distress was the carved area on the drawer… my client wanted that detail to blend into the table and not stand out.
I added a little bit of diluted dark wax to the table in several places… to darken the color of the Baguette just a touch.
A simple change that makes a big impact… sometimes all it takes is a coat of paint to transform the feeling of a room.

I am loving yellow right now, Spring can’t get here soon enough! Great paint color and the table turned out beautifully!
Love this Holly and I loved your technique. Just wondering….how do you dilute the dark wax? I finished two pieces of furniture this week for my office and wanted just a tiny bit of dark patina on the light neutral paint but the AS dark wax was way too dark. I buffed and buffed to get the color I wanted….ugh! Love love love that bird pillow in your photos. Is that fabric available somewhere? Have a super great day! xo
Love the table! What a a wonderful color!
Thank you so much for inspiring me today!

Holly,
Love a warm yellow! And it does exactly what you said, it brightened up the dark corner. Before the detail on the table was unnoticeable due to the lack of lighting and the dark shade of wood. Now you notice the detail.
Another great makeover!
Thanks so much Jenny!!
